Gratitude is the greatest of virtues, and that is why we must celebrate Thanksgiving Day, being aware of all the gifts that are given to us every day.

“Expressing gratitude is courteous and honorable, acting with gratitude is generous and noble; but to always live with gratitude in the heart is to touch the sky.”

Thomas S. Monson.

When you download a design file from the library, it automatically downloads in SVG, Ai, DXF, Studio3, and Webp formats.

Plus I’ll give you lots of free design templates for you to enjoy making your DIY decorations for this great date.

These are the topics that we will cover in today’s tutorial:

  • Materials and accessories
  • Steps to Organize Your Thanksgiving Card Design in Silhouette Studio
  • Cutting process in Silhouette Cameo 4
  • Assembly process.

In this tutorial, we will learn and have fun at every step, so if you are new to this world, I suggest you stick to the instructions for a wonderful project.

Materials and Accessories

*Choose a material or designer paper according to the colors of your card.

This is the card that you are going to develop in this tutorial, as you can see it has three colors and four different materials.

The card cover is made of white watercolor cardstock.

The cover has a sheet with the phrase “Thankful and blessed”, for this I suggest you use designer paper, it also has a maple leaf made of pearly ocher cardstock and a background sheet also in ocher color.

On the inside of the card, I suggest you decorate it with some rectangles made of designer paper and white cardstock. On the white rectangle, you can write the thanksgiving message you want using a Sketch Pen Silhouette that matches the colors on the card.

Are you ready? I’m so excited!

Let’s start with the design!

Arrange the Design in Silhouette Studio

Step 1: Upload the Thanksgiving Card Design Template

Download the design file to a folder on your PC, then open the Silhouette Studio program and click the “File” button in the top panel, then click “Open.”

In the dialog box, browse to the folder in which you stored the design and double-click the file to open it in the Silhouette design software.

Step 2: Organize the design for the cut

The design of the card is 8 in (20.3 cm) wide by 10 in (25.4 cm) long, this means that when you fold it, it will be 5 in (12.7 cm) long, if you want another size you will have to adjust it before ungrouping the elements and then follow the step-by-step.

In the central region of the design area, you will find the elements ready for cutting.

This is how you should see the layout when you open it:

In the design area you will find the following pieces:

  • A rectangle 8 in (20.3 cm) wide by 10 in (25.4 cm) long that corresponds to the outer face of the card, contains a dotted line in the center that corresponds to the fold line.
  • A rectangle that contains the design of the phrase “Thankful and blessed”, corresponds to the cover of the card.
  • A 7.3 in wide (18.5 cm) by 4.4 in (11.1cm) long rectangle to decorate the inside of the card.
  • A 6.5 in (16.5 cm) wide by 3.7 in (9.4 cm) long rectangle decorated with a dotted line, a pumpkin, and a phrase alluding to Thanksgiving. This phrase is just a suggestion, you can choose the phrase you want
  • The design of a maple leaf.

Cutting process

Step 1: Select the elements, materials, tools, and cut settings for each element

You must drag out of the design area the elements or layers that you do not want to cut yet and leave only the element that you are going to cut, I am going to start with the card cover, but you can do it in any order.

To cut the cover you must select the white watercolor cardstock and put it on the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the added material.

Insert the AutoBlade or Automatic Blade into the carriage 1 of the machine.

Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.

Very good, everything is ready to cut the cover.

Now I suggest you continue with the second element, the cover that contains the phrase “Thankful and blessed” and the large rectangle that goes inside the card in the same color, you must bring them to the design area.

To cut these two elements you must select the designer paper you have chosen and put it on the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the added material.

Insert the AutoBlade or Automatic Blade into the carriage 1 of the machine.

Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.

I suggest setting line segment overcut to 0.5.

Notes:

  • The cutting configuration varies depending on the materials you have chosen for your card.
  • A low speed will help you cut this part of the design better.

Good, everything is ready… you can make the cut!

Note: Be sure to save the letter counters as you will need to paste them individually later.

Great, let’s continue!

Now I suggest you cut the Maple leaf and a large rectangle that will be the background for the cover, you must bring them to the design area.

To cut these elements you must select the ocher-colored pearlescent cardstock and put it on the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the added material.

Insert the AutoBlade or Automatic Blade into the carriage 1 of the machine.

Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.

I suggest setting line segment overcut to 0.5.

Well, everything is ready!

Finally, you must bring the white rectangle that goes inside the card to the design area.

Insert the AutoBlade or Automatic Blade into the carriage 1 of the machine.

To cut this element you must select the white cardstock and put it on the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the added material.

Insert the AutoBlade or Automatic Blade into the carriage 1 of the machine.

Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.

Step 2: Outline the Thanksgiving Phrase or Message

Now I suggest you sketch a phrase alluding to Thanksgiving, if you want to use the one that appears in the design, you just have to bring it to the work area and center it in the white rectangle.

To outline the phrase or message you must use the rectangle that you have just cut out of white cardstock and load the mat into the machine with the added material.

Take the ocher Sketch Pen Silhouette and couple it with the blue adapter, then you must insert them into the carriage 1 of the machine.

Make sure you have the elements ungrouped so you can select just the text you want to outline.

In the upper right section of the menu, click “Send” and set the options for your sketch.

Select the dotted lines, the pumpkin, and the message, and click “Outline.”

Note: For best results when sketching out your message you should ensure that the mat is always flat when entering and exiting the machine (not curled), this helps to prevent the drawing pen or Sketch Pen Silhouette to create unwanted scratches on the material. You can help by removing the roll feeder located at the bottom of the machine.

Now you can send to sketch your message!

Here are the pieces you should have when you’re done cutting the card:

  • The cover of the card in white watercolor cardstock
  • The cover with the phrase “Thankful and Blessed” on designer paper
  • The maple leaf in ocher cardstock
  • A rectangle in ocher cardstock
  • A rectangle on designer paper
  • A rectangle in white cardstock with the phrase or message of thanksgiving outlined.

Assembly Process

I am so excited to assemble my card, I really think its wonderful!

Step 1: Using Glue

Using high-quality glue, first glue the rectangle on designer paper to the inside of the card, make it as symmetrical as possible, and help yourself with a ruler.

Glue the ocher rectangle on the cover of the card.

Now paste the cover on the ocher-colored cardstock rectangle previously glued on the cover.

Then glue the maple leaf and letter counters onto the cover.

Finally, use high-quality glue to stick the rectangle that contains the thanksgiving phrase to the inside of the card.

It’s so beautiful!

Mistakes while writing my article… Don’t let it happen to you!

Sometimes mistakes are made in life and when doing crafts it can happen too!

That’s why I want to share a mistake I made while writing my article so that it doesn’t happen to you.

At the time that I was cutting the elements of the thanksgiving card, I didn’t realize that the counters of the phrase “Thankful and Blessed” had been left loose so I had to glue each counter individually, the result is still beautiful but It takes a little longer, you can cut the phrase on vinyl to avoid this happening to you.

Congratulations, your Thanksgiving Card is ready!
