- 65lb Flat Cardstock: I used the signature colors of the Halloween monsters: Black, orange, white, green, purple, and beige
- Adhesive vinyl: I used black color*
- Round wooden or bamboo rods
- High quality glue stick
- High quality liquid glue
- Rubber roller
- Free Design Template: Download it at the bottom of this article or by clicking here.
*If you don’t have adhesive vinyl you can replace it with black cardstock, the idea is to use it in some small details of the designs, which cut in vinyl will look better.
Arrange the Design in Silhouette Studio
Step 1: Upload the Halloween Monster Mask Design Template
Download the design file to a folder on your PC, then open the Silhouette Studio program and click the “File” button in the top panel, then click “Open.”
In the dialog box, browse to the folder in which you stored the design and double-click the file to open it in the Silhouette design software.
Step 2: Organize the design for the cut
When you open the file you will find the designs like this:
In the work area you will find the following 7 Halloween Monster Mask designs:
- Boo!
- Halloween pumpkin
- Frankenstein’s monster
- Skull
- Dracula
- Bat
- Witch
You must adjust the size of each mask before cutting it, the ideal measurement in the eye area is 5 in (12.7 cm) wide , make sure to increase the size of each design so that it is this length in the center area, I’ll show you how later.
To start, select the designs and left-click, click on “Ungroup”.
Cutting process
Step 1: Select the elements, materials, tools, and cutting settings for each element.
You must drag out of the design area the masks that you are not going to cut yet and leave the ones that you are going to cut first.
I’ll start with the “Boo!” design, the bat, and the vampire since they’re all black, but you can do it in any order.
Tip: Remember to adjust the size of the design by enlarging it from the corner boxes when you select the image, this will allow the design to keep its proportions.
Adjust the size of each design so that the eye area is 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide.
To achieve this length in the eye area, you can create a 5 in (12.7 cm) line and place it in the center area of the designs.
Once you have achieved the correct size of the masks, you must remove these lines from the design area so that the machine does not cut them since you would damage the material.
Finally, ungroup the vampire design to remove the skin and fangs from the design area, since these elements must be cut out later in white.
To cut these elements you must select the black cardstock and put it on the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the aded material.
Insert the AutoBlade into carriage 1 of the machine.
Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.
Now you are ready to cut the masks!
You are doing very well, it remains to cut the white elements of the vampire mask design, the fangs, and the skin. You must bring them to the design area.
To cut these elements you must select the white cardstock and put it on the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the adhered material.
Insert the AutoBlade into carriage 1 of the machine.
Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.
Very good, everything is ready!
Now you must repeat the same steps with the remaining masks.
Drag the elements you just cut out of the design area and bring in the ones you want to cut.
I’m going to choose Frankenstein’s Monster, the Witch, and the Halloween Pumpkin since they share black and green elements, but you can cut them in any order you prefer.
Adjust the size of the designs keeping in mind the 5 in (12.7cm) measurement in the eye area.
Note: If you used a 5 in. (12.7 cm) line to achieve the desired size in the eye area, remember to take it out of the design area before making the cut so as not to ruin the material
To cut the elements of these three masks you must first ungroup them.
Initially, leave the elements in black color in the design area.
Note: The scar from Frankenstein’s Monster will be reserved for cutting it on vinyl later.
To cut these elements you must select the black cardstock and adhere it to the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the added material.
Insert the AutoBlade into carriage 1 of the machine.
Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.
The configuration is ready!
Continue cutting the other elements of the masks. Drag the black elements out of the design area and bring in the elements you want to cut.
I’m going to choose the witch hat, but you can cut them in the order you prefer.
Tip: I suggest you cut two hats to give the mask more stability since this element is large and if it only has one layer it will curve.
To cut this element you must select the purple cardstock and put it on the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the adhered material.
Insert the AutoBlade into carriage 1 of the machine.
Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.
Tip: To cut this element I recommend you activate the “Line Segment Overcut”, this will cut the sharp angles of the hat better and make it look more aesthetic.
Everything is ready to cut the hat!
Hey, that’s great! Do not you believe it?
Now I suggest you cut the green elements of the masks. Drag the hat out of the design area and bring in the green elements.
To cut these elements you must select the green cardstock and put it on the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the added material.
Insert the AutoBlade into carriage 1 of the machine.
Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.
Tip: To cut these elements I recommend you activate the “Line Segment Overcut”, this will make sharp angles cut better.
Now you just need to cut the pumpkin, drag the green elements out of the design area and bring the outline of the pumpkin.
To cut this element you must select the orange cardstock and put it on the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the added material.
Insert the AutobBlade or automatic blade in carriage 1 of the machine.
Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.
Tip: To cut this element I recommend you activate the “Line Segment Overcut”, this will make sharp angles cut better.
I like it a lot!
Repeat the same steps with the pumpkin stem, preferably using a piece of brown cardstock.
Not long to finish!
You are just a few steps away from finishing the monster halloween masks. Now all you need is the skull design, the witch’s hat buckle, and the scar on Frankenstein’s Monster’s forehead.
You must drag the elements that you just cut out of the design area and bring the following ones, I suggest you start with the skull.
Adjust the size of the skull design keeping in mind that the width of the eye area should be 5 inches (12.7 cm).
Once you have the size of the design ready, be sure to bring the line you used to adjust the size in the eye area outside of the work area. Then select the skull, left-click and click on “Ungroup”.
Drag the black details on the skull out of the design area and bring the witch’s hat buckle into the design area.
To cut these elements you must select the beige cardstock and put it on the cutting mat, and load the mat into the machine with the adhered material.
Insert the AutoBlade into carriage 1 of the machine.
Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.
Everything is ready to cut the skull!
Finally, drag the skull and buckle design out of the design area and bring in the remaining black details to cut. It also includes the scar on the forehead of Frankenstein’s Monster.
To cut these elements you must select the black vinyl and put it on the cutting mat, load the mat into the machine with the adhered material.
Insert the AutoBlade into carriage 1 of the machine.
Click the “Send” button in the upper right section of the menu and set the cutting options.
Tip: To cut these elements I recommend you activate the “Line Segment Overcut”, this will make sharp angles cut better.
What happiness! You have finished cutting the masks.
Assembly process
Step 1: Use High-Quality Glue
First, use a high-quality glue stick to glue the designs that are made up of multiple elements.
Step 2: Transfer the Vinyl Elements
Transfer vinyl cut elements such as the Frankenstein Monster scar and cranial sutures on the skull.
Step 3: Using the Wooden Rods
Finally, use high-quality liquid glue to glue the round wooden or Bamboo rods on the right back of the masks.
Tip: For the design of the witch, I recommend you glue the two hats with a natural wooden toothpick in the middle, this will give it more stability.
These masks will be the sensation in the Halloween photos!
Congratulations, your Halloween Monster Masks are ready!
